Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho tonight aimed a jibe at Arsene Wenger ahead of their Emirates showdown on Sunday.

The Arsenal manager riled the Special One this week with his claim that it’s “easy to defend” after the league leaders ground out narrow wins over QPR and Man United in recent weeks.

That remark re-opened a war of words between the two and the Portuguese hit back at Wenger by poking fun at the Gunners’ Champions League exit to Monaco.

He said: “It’s not easy, not easy. If it was easy, you wouldn’t lose 3-1 at home to Monaco.

“If he defends well he draws 0-0 against Monaco and wins in Monte Carlo. It’s not easy to defend.”

Mourinho has an incredible 12-match unbeaten streak against the Frenchman and labelled his opponent a “specialist in failure” last season and previously called him a “voyeur”.

Chelsea are 10 points clear at the top going into this weekend’s game, having sat top of the pile all season, and Mourinho thinks his team will be worthy champions.

He added: “If we win the title this season, I don’t care where and how. I just want to be champions. It matters what I feel, not what people feel, think or say.

Flashpoint: Mourinho and Arsene Wenger have words

“We are the best team since day one, and we want to be the best team until the last day.

“We are top of the league since day one. We are the second team in terms of goals scored. We are the second best team for goals conceded. The team with fewest defeats.

“We have some of the best goals of the season, and I’m not speaking about individual actions or shots like Charlie Adam’s from midfield. Not this kind of spectacular goal, but spectacular team goals.

“We started that at Burnley, with [Andre] Schurrle’s goal. One of the best of the season.

“We repeated that almost week after week. We are having everything in our season. So, if we manage to win the Premier League, we did everything right.”

Meanwhile, Diego Costa is racing to be fit for Chelsea’s trip to Arsenal.

The Spanish striker is struggling for fitness as he battles to overcome a recurring hamstring complaint.

Didier Drogba is available despite an injury scare but Loic Remy has been ruled out.
