Andre Gray reckons Brentford could be a surprise play-off package this season after putting Brighton to the sword.

The Bees climbed up to sixth in the table after edging a five-goal thriller at Griffin Park on Saturday to extend their unbeaten run to four games.

And former Luton frontman Gray, who grabbed the second goal in the 3-2 win over the Seagulls, says Mark Warburton’s newly-promoted side could be dark horses for a place in the end-of-season lottery.

Fox in the box: Gray pounces to make it 2-0

He said: “We never set out just to stay up this year. The club has got massive ambitions and that’s one of the reasons I came here this summer.

“I think we’ve shown everyone now we’re not here just to make up the numbers. We want to try and do something this season.

“We’ve got to try and stay in the top half of the table and then see what happens from there. Bournemouth went close last year and hopefully we can do the same.

“We’re a young, hungry team who are only going to get better. We’re improving every week and have to keep our feet on the ground and carry on working hard.

“There’s a lot of big teams in this league, so to keep taking three points against some of the more fancied sides gives us confidence.”

Brentford will look to continue their unbeaten run when they host high-flying Norwich City on Tuesday night.
