Injury-plagued Alejandro Faurlin has signed a new QPR contract after admitting he considering quitting football last season.

The 28-year-old has penned a one-year extension to his deal and has the option of a further year at the Loftus Road.

Faurlin joined QPR in 2009 but incredibly suffered three anterior cruciate ligament injuries in as many years.

He missed the majority of last season’s Premier League campaign with the latest of those ACL problems but is fit-again now and ready to show why Rangers have handed him fresh terms.

Faurlin told the club’s official website: “I'm extremely happy.

“I have to say thank you to everyone at the club for keeping me here and giving me the chance to prove a lot of people wrong. I just want to play football.

“I contemplated giving up after my last injury. It was really tough and I was in a dark place. Thankfully, I’m still here.

“All you can do is give your best to come back.

No room for sentiment: Les Ferdinand

“The support from everyone in and around the club has been massive. I am eternally grateful for that.

“I have trained with the lads for three to four months now. I feel confident. I’m ready to go again.“I can't wait to play in front of the QPR fans. I feel part of the family, I have done for six years.

“I'm sure next season is going to be a good one. I love this place.”

QPR’s director of Football Les Ferdinand says the decision was based purely on Faurlin’s ability to help the Hoops in the Championship next season and no sentiment has clouded the club’s judgement.

He added: “Everyone knows what Ale means to QPR and what QPR means to Ale, but there was no sentiment involved here.

“The way he fought back from his injury last season is all credit to him and he showed on the training ground during the final few weeks of last season what a talented player he is.

“If he can stay fit, which we really hope he can, he will be a big asset for us in the coming season.

“We're delighted he’s agreed a new deal with the club.”
