Alan McCormack made his 100th appearance for Brentford in the 2-0 win over Leeds United and declared that he has loved every minute of his time at Griffin Park.

The Irishman has been a popular figure among Bees fans but is seemingly set to leave at the end of the season when his contract runs out.

Injuries have hampered the past few seasons and McCormack was glad to finally break through the nervous 90s and reach his century of appearances for the club.

He said: “It's been on my mind for a while. I knew it was coming up. I found out I was into the late 90s and thought I would never get there with the season coming to an end.

“It's a nice thing to do to get 100 games for one club. Hopefully I can stay and do a few more for the rest of the season.”

McCormack moved to Brentford from Swindon in the summer of 2013 and he added steel to a side that had missed out in the League One play-off final that year, helping the Bees to promotion in his first season.

And it was the day a Championship berth was secured with the 1-0 win over Preston, that the Irishman named as his favourite moment in the red and white stripes.

He added: “My favourite one will always be the Preston game where we got promoted. That will always stand out.

“Games you score in, games you play well in. There are loads of games that can stand out. It's been a fantastic four years at Brentford and I've enjoyed every minute of it.”

McCormack knows that his chances of being back for a fifth season at Griffin Park are not in his control but he is going to do his level best to earn that chance.

He explained: “It's out of my hands at the moment. If I can keep fit, I've got a chance to get in the team and playing in the team if not contributing to a lot.

“Myself and the physios have worked very hard and Chris (Haslam), the fitness coach, getting back to being strong like I was and I think we've found the key to it. I feel in great condition at the moment. It's just match fitness I need.”

Brentford have picked up six points this weeks with victories over Leeds and Bristol City and they travel to Cardiff on Saturday looking to make it four wins on the spin.
