Alan Judge has been named as runner up to former team-mate Andre Gray for the Championship player of the year title.

The Brentford talisman scored 14 goals and set up a further 11 before a reckless and unnecessary challenge from Luke Hyam left the Irishman with a broken leg, robbing the 27-year-old of his Euro 2016 dream.

However, Gray was the man elected as the second tier's best player after his 24, two of those while wearing a Brentford shirt, goals have fired Burnley into the automatic promotion race.

Fulham striker Ross McCormack was in third place after his goals and assists kept the Whites' heads above water.

Judge, though, was named in the Football League's team of the season, which combined all three divisions.

The team was originally selected by local media representatives, including GetWestLondon, with a national panel taking those nominations to create a team, which is below.

Goalkeeper: Adam Smith (Northampton Town) – A fans favourite at Sixfields keeping 13 clean sheets and conceding just 39 goals in the club’s historic season. Adam Smith’s impressive form has been key to Northampton being crowned champions of Sky Bet League 2.

Right Back: Bruno (Brighton & Hove Albion) – An ever present in the Brighton team this season playing 3344 minutes, the Spanish right back has also added scoring to his game with his first goal of the season coming against Fulham on the 15th April.
