Neal Ardley has heaped praise on Gareth Ainsworth ahead of AFC Wimbledon's meeting with Wycombe on Saturday.

The Chairboys are currently sitting in 12th place in League Two but have two games in hand on most of their rivals and are just a point off sixth placed Mansfield.

They have achieved this despite having a limited budget and were 30 seconds away from promotion via the play-offs last season.

And Ardley was full of praise for his Wycombe counterpart ahead of the contest.

He said: “He's been fantastic. His teams are always difficult to play against. That's going to be no different.

“They'll be coming to have a go and attack us. If our performance is good. We give ourselves a great chance of winning.”

Having picked up a respectable away point at fourth placed Portsmouth, the Dons boss is looking for some home comforts.

He added: “I'm looking for a good performance level. No games are easy at this level. Wycombe have a fantastic away record so it's all about focusing on them. It's about getting a good performance.”

Those words were echoed by AFC Wimbledon striker Adebayo Akinfenwa, who knows Ainsworth's side will provide a severe test.

He explained: "There's no easy games in this league. That's the thing about League Two. We need to be consistent.

"We've got a draw at Portsmouth but Wycombe will be a different prospect because we're at home. It's going to be tough but we're relishing it. Anyone can beat anyone on their day."
