A Burton player who was born just six miles from Kingsmeadow will be hoping to give AFC Wimbledon something to cry about when the two sides meet tonight.

John Mousinho comes from Isleworth, and turned out for Brentford 64 times between 2005-08 before wending his way to Albion via a host of clubs including Wycombe.

And the midfielder, who was on the scoresheet in the 2-0 victory over York City on Saturday that sent the Brewers three points clear at the top of the table, could cause Neal Ardley's side plenty of problems according to Burton Mail reporter Tom Sloan.

He actually learned his trade at Notre Dame University in the USA - a team known as the Fighting Irish, even if he is from Portuguese descent, and has already earned plaudits for his tough no-nonsense midfield showing for Albion since he joined in the summer after being released by Preston North End.

Another to catch the eye of Sloan is the only player-manager Gary Rowett has paid money for.

In the cash-strapped basement, League Two fees are rare but the Burton boss shelled out five figures for Lucas Akins, or to give him his full handle, Lucas-Jordan Jeremiah Akins.

Albion hope the Dons struggle to cope with his name and pace down the right and like Mousinho he was on the scoresheet against York at the Pirelli Stadium.

“For a winger, Akins is unusually tall, around 6ft 1in, but he has good feet and scored the winner on opening day against Oxford that was also his debut,” added Sloan.

The third man on Sloan's list is another former Wycombe player in striker Stuart Beavon.

Beavon has two goals in eight appearances this season for the Brewers, one of which came in the Capital One Cup first round victory over Championship side Wigan last month.
