Neal Ardley suffered injuries to Jake Reeves and Dean Parrett in the wake of last night’s Checkatrade Trophy win over Plymouth - but says his side can cope.

Two goals in three second half minutes from Lyle Taylor and Tyrone Barnett saw Dons repeat their League Two play-off win over the now League Two leaders to stand on the brink of qualification for the knockout stages.

However, the gloss appeared to have been removed by ankle knocks for captain for the night Reeves and fellow midfielder Parrett.

Ardley believes his blossoming squad has the armoury to cope should either or both fail to be ready for the visit to Oxford on Sunday.

Problem: Jake Reeves

“We don’t know if either will be okay for the weekend, but listen, the way the boys are going and fighting for each other I’m sure it will take a hell of a lot to stop them being fit for Sunday,” he said.

Obviously you are concerned because they are good players and we work hard at our injuries but if I didn’t think we had players who could come in I would be worried.

“Tom Beere gives me confidence the way he’s played and Bully (Dannie Bulman) we know can do what he does. So you always look and think I feel the squad is good enough to cope.

A scrappy first half saw Plymouth lead through a long range shot from Dons’ old-boy Connor Smith, but Ardley’s men raised the tempo after the break and used the full width of the pitch to dominate the Pilgrims.

Verdict: Neal Ardley

It left Ardley to reflect on a night of positives, including positive auditions from squad players such Will Nightingale, Sean Kelly and debutants Chris Robertson and Alfie Egan.

“I thought we were exceptional in the second half,” he added.

“I got stuck into them a little bit at half-time we raised our energy levels and the second half was everything you could possibly ask for.

“There were so many positives to take from it from the back four, the way they played to young Alfie (Egan) coming in and giving a solid performance and the front three who when they run, press and play with energy are extremely difficult to handle.”
