Jake Reeves wonders what might have been if AFC Wimbledon had produced their sparkling best form in the first half of the season.

Wimbledon have put together an excellent set of results since the turn of the year and had notched up five straight wins before the midweek loss to Portsmouth.

That 1-0 defeat saw the champagne put on ice as the Dons remain just two points short of making sure they will take part in the League Two play-offs.

They have two games left to pick up those points but Reeves has hinted they may even have finished in the automatic spots had they been as ruthless before Christmas.

“It’s been frustrating but I’m fully fit now,” the midfielder told Dons Player after recovering from a hamstring strain.

“It was frustrating that we didn’t get it sealed against Portsmouth but we’ve still got two games to get two points so it doesn’t make much difference to our end goal.

“Before January we weren’t as consistent, which makes it more frustrating, because the form we’ve shown since January has been very good. Before January it was a new team, the gaffer had brought in a lot of players and they needed to bed in.”

Tomorrow represents Wimbledon’s first opportunity to book their spot in the end-of-season lottery as they travel to Stevenage.

Stevenage’s caretaker manager Darren Sarrll worked with Reeves during his time as a youth coach at Brentford and the midfielder is expecting energy from the Boro side.

“He was my youth team coach at Brentford,” Reeves added of his former mentor.

“His teams always work hard and I’m sure they’ll go from the first minute on Saturday. I don’t see this minor blip in my season being a problem. It was just a hamstring injury and it was only a couple of weeks out.”
