AFC Wimbledon’s George Francomb can’t wait to be a dad – but that said he hopes his daughter decides against putting in an appearance tomorrow.

Francomb revealed in the wake of Saturday’s 1-0 win over Walsall, wife Francesca is 40 weeks pregnant with the new arrival due sometime Tuesday.

The Dons stalwart is of course due to be on first team duty away at title-chasing Scunthorpe and if all is quiet on the home front will head to Lincolnshire as scheduled.

Understandably though, the former Norwich defender is hopeful in a world where precise timing is usually everything, his youngster decides not to arrive right on cue.

“My missus can’t wait and she’s due when we are up in Scunthorpe, so fingers crossed she doesn’t come then because it would take me a long while to get back,” he said.

“Hopefully she will arrive between the games at Scunthorpe and Bolton.

Watch: Barry Fuller (L) is all eyes

With club captain Barry Fuller ruled out for the season with a pectoral injury, Francomb has been Neal Ardley’s first choice to fill the void at right-back.

However, the AFC Wimbledon boss has assured the 25-year-old he will do everything possible to make sure he doesn’t miss the birth with contingency plans in place to let him dash to daddy duties mid-match if necessary.

“For the last couple of games one of the staff has kept my phone on him, so if my missus goes into labour she knows to call and they will get word to the bench,” he added.

The gaffer will then obviously bring me off and allow me to go to be at the birth.

“If worst comes to worst, I’ll have to get off the pitch and go on a three-hour journey back to Essex.”
