Lyle Taylor has backed AFC Wimbledon’s strike-force to smash the 60-goal barrier this season.

Former Bournemouth striker Taylor could content himself with assist duties in Saturday’s 4-0 win over Port Vale as fellow front-men Dominic Poleon, Tom Elliott and Tyrone Barnett all hit the target.

Dons’ fab four now have 35 for the campaign in all competitions with summer signing Poleon leading the way with 12.

It is all in stark contrast to last season when 26-year-old Taylor shouldered the brunt of goal-scoring responsibilities in the club’s successful League Two promotion push.

“It can only be good news for Wimbledon if I don’t score and we still win 4-0,” he said.

“If you look at it we have got three other centre-forwards who are at the moment on fire.

“The gaffer said last year he wanted 60 goals and I think we got more than enough to be scoring 60 goals between the four of us this time.”

Part of the reason the fab four are ahead of schedule is Barnett has begun to join the party.

The former Shrewsbury man’s goal against the Valiants was his fifth for Dons.

Taylor feels Barnett has endured a tough start at Kingsmeadow, but is now blossoming nicely.

Hero: Tom Elliott

“I’m absolutely buzzing for Ty because he has had a tough time of it, tougher than any of the other centre forwards have had it,” he added

“I love Ty, he is a great lad, great around the place and in the dressing-room and he deserves the success he is now having.

“To be able to produce that first touch in the box with a defender right up behind you is something else.

“The ball was coming at him with some pace on it so to be able to kill it with that touch, roll the defender and stick it in the net as he did was a hell of a goal.”
