AFC Wimbledon will have to use every trick in the book to compete in League One this season, according to Lyle Taylor.

Neal Ardley’s Dons have endured a tough start to life in the third tier and have already been eliminated from the EFL Cup at the first-round stage.

The league has always been the priority at Kingsmeadow though and Wimbledon are looking for improvement after drawing blanks in their opening two fixtures.

Scunthorpe are the visitors this evening as the Dons look to make it third time lucky and register their first points of the 2016/17 campaign.

Star striker Taylor, who has already notched twice this term, joined from the Iron a year ago and has built a sterling reputation under Ardley’s guidance.

However, the fiery character knows League One presents a formidable challenge and has urged on his team-mates draw on all of their experience to push them up the table.

“It’s great to score and me doing my job helps the team but it is about results,” the forward told Dons Player. “We need to make sure that we win the games, wherever the goals come from.

“Tyrone [Barnett] and T [Tom Elliott] are very good for Dom [Poleon] and for me and hopefully once Ty is completely fit and we’re all gelled and working as a unit then it will be great.

“We have got options going forward and in midfield. We’re going to have to use all of those options and every bit of nous that we’ve got to do well in this league.”

Wimbledon winger Chris Whelpdale was facing a late fitness test ahead of tonight’s clash with Scunthorpe but George Francomb remains sidelined.

Taylor admits he will be glad to see some old faces at Kingsmeadow but says there is no room for sentiment in football.

“I’ll be happy to see some of the days and not so much for some of them,” he added. “There’s somebody in every single team now almost that you know.

“As soon as you step out on the pitch it is business as usual. Football is a small community and small world. We’ll be mates again on Wednesday.”
