AFC Wimbledon must stop Jamie Cureton making lightning strike twice in tonight's clash with basement boys Dagenham & Redbridge.

That was the warning from veteran midfielder Danny Bulman , who labelled the former QPR and Norwich striker among the deadliest finishers in League Two ahead of what has been dubbed 'The District Line Derby.'

Bulman remembers only too well Cureton's hat-trick as Dons were beaten 4-0 by the Daggers back in April and says it was the sort of virtuoso performance which puts the now 40-year-old alongside Matt Tubbs in terms of the best goalscorers in the division.

Still deadly: Jamie Cureton

"Goals don't lie do they?" he said. "I'm good friends with Matt Tubbs and his goal record doesn't lie either. It is a gift given to you, goalscoring, you can't nurture it, you've either got it or you haven't and players like Tubbs and Cureton are the natural finishers in this league, always on the move and that is why they keep knocking them in."

That said, Bulman claimed the events of that forgettable day at Victoria Road in the spring were something of a freak and came at a time when Dons were struggling on the road and experimenting with alternative formations.

With home comforts and a more settled side on the fringes of the play-off scrap so far this term, Bulman is confident of a more positive outcome at Kingsmeadow this evening.

"The game in April was peculiar because stats-wise we were miles on top, but the little man (Cureton) was the difference," he added.

"We were in transition trying a 3-4-3 where now we seem to be sticking to a 4-4-2 in which everyone knows their jobs, so if we are on our game and play the way we can hopefully Jamie won't get a sniff."

Bulman helped the Dons to a 1-1 draw against Wycombe Wanderers in their last outing on Saturday.
