Adam Barrett reckons he has plenty to offer AFC Wimbledon after extending his stay until January 4.

The former Southend hero put one over his old team in a 1-0 win at Roots Hall on Tuesday night, and believes this Dons unit will shrug off struggles from the last two campaigns and vie for honours at the right end of the table.

And Barrett will be be part of that having extended his loan until just after the new year.

“I’m really enjoying it, and I believe I can really add something to the squad and the team,” Barrett said.

AFC Wimbledon manager Neal Ardley

“We’ve got a lot of experience and a lot of fighters. I’ve been around the block a few times with different clubs, but I’m hungry to succeed, and there’s a lot of desire at the club.

“Dons have been struggling at the wrong end, but this year is the chance to push on and take the club forward.”

Two wins on the road at Luton and Southend have set Barrett and co up nicely for the visit of Hartlepool on Saturday, and although the central defender is ostensibly replacing crocked Andy Frampton, out with a broken ankle, the loanee can’t wait for his old mate to return.

Barrett said: “We’ve had two massive results in beating Luton and Southend, and it stands us in good stead.

“Andy’s a great friend of mine. We won the league title together at Gillingham, and I was really disappointed when he got injured.

“The more players we’ve got back the stronger we are and the more chances we have to succeed.”

There were no added injury woes from Tuesday, and Ardley is set to name the same XI that started against Southend when AFC face Hartlepool at Kingsmeadow.
