AFC Wimbledon are entering uncharted territory next season in League One and sports scientist Jason Moriarty admits he is unsure of exactly what to expect.

The fitness coach joined Wimbledon back in their non-league days and his risen up through the leagues with the club to reach the third tier of English football.

Having originally pitched up at Kingsmeadow in June 2008, working under former manager Terry Brown in the Conference, it has been a steep learning curve for Moriarty.

However, the Roehampton University graduate has shown his ability to adapt as the Dons have evolved into a more technologically-advanced outfit under Neal Ardley.

Wimbledon like to operate using statistics, making use of GPS systems, but Moriarty admits he has no previous League data to work with ahead of the new campaign.

“If I’m honest, my knowledge of League One is zero because I’ve never been involved in it,” he told Dons Player.

“I know teams in League One and League Two cover more distance and more high-intensity sprints than those in the Championship and the Premier League because the games are sporadic.

“It’s more up and down rather than those leagues where the ball is passed around the back a little bit. It’s just myself and a volunteer who comes in to help me. In return we develop his professional portfolio.

“Every department has improved as the club has moved through the leagues. It’s a credit to the whole club.

“It’s people like Erik [Samuelson], Ivor [Hellor], David Charles and everyone from when I was here from first here. It’s not just the football department.”

Moriarty is today finishing up his first week back with the full squad as they reported back for pre-season training on Monday.

AFC Wimbledon are running with a five-week pre-season schedule rather than their usual six-week programme this season after their extended play-off campaign.

They begin their pre-season fixtures at Dover on Tuesday before making the trip to Margate on Saturday, July 16.

The first home game of the schedule is the visit of Reading a week later.
