Dominic Poleon led the rout as a ruthless AFC Wimbledon dispatched Bury from the FA Cup in the replay at Kingsmeadow.

Poleon, an early replacement for the injured Andy Barcham, scored twice in a hugely dynamic performance suggesting he is well and truly over his recent injuries.

Veteran defender Paul Robinson scored one and made one while Dean Parrett and Lyle Taylor also in on the act for the rampant hosts who travel to Curzon Ashton from National League North in the next round on December 4.

The hosts lost Jon Meades in the warm-up and Bury started the better Neil Danns forcing an early save from James Shea.

But they responded with a Barcham shot over the top, but it was the last act for the former Tottenham youngster before he too limped off midway through the half.

Poleon was denied a penalty when he went down under challenge but Dons were ahead on 26 minutes when a free-kick was played to Taylor who turned his defender and fired across the box for Robinson to apply a smart finish.

With Bury’s defence all over the place five minutes later it was 2-0. Poleon contested a high ball with Leon Barnett and when the ball broke to Parrett he danced into the box and slid the ball beyond Ben Williams.

Only a brilliant challenge by Anthony Kay denied Poleon and Taylor too was thwarted at the last by a combination of Williams and Tom Soares.

Heads up: Paul Robinson

At the other end Shea flapped a corner from the left onto his post, but Bury self-destructed again in stoppage-time.

Taylor’s initial shot hit Robinson, but the visitors couldn’t clear and when the ball came forward again Robinson turned it inside to Poleon who finished with aplomb

There was still time for James Vaughan to shoot over for Bury before a breathless half came to a close.

Parrett fizzed in a long-ranger tipped over by Williams in a more subdued start to the second period.

Bury kept trying to play, but created little and Poleon made them pay when he latched onto a long ball forward and left Soares on the seat of his pants before rounding Williams and dribbling into an empty net.

It was a rout now and Taylor was similarly dismissive as he out-muscled his marker to steer a left-foot shot inside Williams’ near post.

Bury misery was compounded late on when Tom Walker worryingly collided with the advertising hoardings.

The two sides meet for the fourth time in a month in the league on Saturday.
