Neal Ardley will be ticking an item off his bucket list when he leads out AFC Wimbledon out at Wembley.

The Dons will take on Plymouth Argyle under the famous arch at the national stadium in the League Two play-off final on May 30.

Wimbledon made it through to the final after a 3-2 aggregate win over Accrington Stanley as Adebayo Akinfenwa and Lyle Taylor pulled them back from the brink.

For Dons boss Ardley, a former Wimbledon player, a Wembley represents the chance to fulfill a childhood dream when he steps out on the hallowed turf later this month.

He said: ““As much as playing at Wembley, I dreamed as a kid of leading a team out at Wembley.

“I always wanted to be a manager and it is one on my bucket list to do this, which was why I was fairly emotional.

“It is a dream come true for a lot of people to have that occasion. Now we are there we have to get our heads right because we want to try and win a game of football to achieve promotion.

“We will give the players some down time and we will prepare next week. It’s going to be a really tough game against a team that were outstanding in the semi-final.”

Josh Windass and Piero Mingoia's stunning 30-yard drive had put Stanley in charge at the Crown Ground on Wednesday evening.

But Wimbledon’s spirit, something which became a hallmark of the original Crazy Gang, got them over the line and drew huge praise from their manager.

He added: “We knew they were going to come at us. That set of boys in there showed their resilience and the right attitude today.

“When we went two goals down they could have folded because Accrington were on it, but they dug in and they kept going and we knew we had the legs. I’m so proud.

“The atmosphere at our club is immense. Today we were tested but to fight back from two goals down was absolutely immense.

“It’s great for these fans. They’ve been so much over the last 14,15 years.

“It’s a dream of mine to take my club to Wembley and let’s go and have a crack at it.

“Plymouth are a really good team and we’ve got to give it our best shot. We’ll prepare for that but I’m just going to enjoy this for now.”
