AC MILAN are pondering a January swoop for Chelsea striker Didier Drogba .

The Rossoneri will be without Antonio Cassano for most of the season after the former Real Madrid striker underwent heart surgery earlier this month.

Drogba’s contract at Stamford Bridge expires at the end of the season and in January he will be able to open talks over a free transfer to a foreign club this summer.

However, Milan need to replace the stricken Cassano in the winter transfer window and it is believed the club are willing to take the Ivorian on-loan initially.

Drogba has only featured seven times for Chelsea this season, finding the net just once in the Blues’ 4-1 victory against Swansea last September.

Romelu Lukaku was brought in as Droba’s long-term replacement this summer, while Daniel Sturridge has forced his way into the Blues’ first-team plans.

And having fallen down the pecking order under Andre Villas-Boas , the 33-year-old could be tempted to move to the San Siro in search of regular football.
