Dons vice-captain Barry Fuller has targeted a top 10 finish – not least because those out of contract have a better chance of getting a new one.

Fuller was vital cog in Saturday’s 1-0 away win over Southend to ease any lingering fears of relegation against a side hoping for a play-off slot.

The defender reckons a Good Friday win over Newport will be a good Friday indeed, and also believes finishing close to the play-offs themselves is not a mad as it sounds.

He explained: “You win a couple in this division and who knows what’s possible? Tenth or 11 is still a chance.

“We’re taking the last four games as seriously as the first four. We know if we do our job on the pitch, who knows what will happen with contracts?”

Jack Midson’s penalty that slid under Southend keeper Dan Bentley proved the difference on Saturday, but AFC were worthy of their win but Fulller insists they were good value for it.

“We’ve lacked a few goals over the season but we’re definitely a League Two team rather than anything lower.

“We showed our resilience against a strong side, and we were due a bit of luck and the penalty was it. These things even themselves up over the season.

“Last week, we had none; we got the penalty and it doesn’t matter how they go over the line as long as they do.

“If we can get three points on Friday, that’s us virtually safe.”
