Crawley defender Paul Connolly has been hit with a five-game ban after his clash with a Brentford fan during last week's defeat at Griffin Park.

The 30-year-old reacted angrily after the ball was thrown at him from the stands and appeared to slap a supporter in the closing stages of the League One meeting.

Match officials missed the incident, but Connolly was charged with violent conduct by the FA after reviewing video evidence.

The former Derby, Leeds and Millwall man can appeal against the suspension, but will miss the rest of the season if he accepts the decision.
