Dean Clark had a hand in both goals as Middlesex beat London 2-1 in a thrilling Southern Counties Cup tie at the Warren last Wednesday.

Both goalkeepers were constantly involved as play flowed from end to end before Clark delivered a 13th minute free kick from out wide and AFC Hayes club-mate Nick Turner opened the scoring from close range.

Both sides wasted subsequent chances before and after half-time, Middlesex having one effort ruled out for off-side, and the keepers remained on top until Orpington's Anthony Weir headed home at a corner in the 73rd minute.

When Nathan Banks headed against the post in the 88th minute the game looked like it was heading for a draw but in added time, his fellow Brunel University student, substitute Ryan Nelson, received a defence splitting pass from Clark and burst down the middle to slot home the winner. Davey Anderson, Erkan Ozerek and Courtney Laidley (all Brunel) were also involved. [25a0] Young Hayes & Yeading United defender Nathan Webb was among the Middlesex U18 players who impressed despite the team's 2-0 defeat away to Sussex in the South East Counties Competition.

The defending champions proved too strong for Middlesex, missing several regulars and their record of won two, lost two, means they cannot win this competition. Manager John Fletcher intends to start building for next season and Webb could feature strongly in those plans.

Hillingdon clubs were heavily represented with Rob Pearce, TomJansons, Dene Gardiner (all Northwood), Nathan Webb, Abdulla N'Subuga, Jake Lovell and Daniel Wishart (Hayes & Yeading United), Jordan Haynes (Harefield United) in the starting XI and Jack Stanton (Harefield United), Edward Hatcher (Northwood) and Ross Thompson (Northwood) on the bench.
