John Swift reckons it's only a matter of time before former Chelsea team-mate Josh McEachran is one of the best midfielders in the Championship.

McEachran signed for Brentford from the Blues last summer but was crocked during pre-season and didn't make his debut until just before Christmas.

After finding his feet with a few cameos and a couple of starts, McEachran really came to life this week with superb performances against Preston and Leeds .

And Swift , who joined the Bees on loan from Chelsea during McEachran's spell on the sidelines, believes the 22 year old will only get better and better.

He said: “I know Josh from Chelsea but he was always playing above, he's two years older than me. He had a great experience at Chelsea, playing a load of first team games.

“He's still a great player, but I think the injury killed him a bit at the beginning of the season. He's definitely getting back into it now, and there's a lot more to come from him.

“It was his first 90 minutes today (against Leeds), and if he keeps gaining on that he will definitely become one of the best midfielders in this league.”

Even McEachran's man of the match performance was not enough to earn all three points against Leeds, however, as a late equaliser earned the Yorkshire side a share of the spoils.

Swift added: “We sat off them too much in the second half, and it was disappointing for everyone to concede the goal so late in the game. We were solid for the whole 90 minutes, apart from those 30 seconds when they got through.

“We didn't really clear the cross properly, but at the same time, all the front players were saying we should have taken more of the chances we got. I thought every player worked 100 per cent but we were just unlucky. We definitely gave two points away.”
