Dean Smith is expecting no 'parking of the bus' in front of goal when Barnsley visit Griffin Park tomorrow.

Smith's Brentford side were left frustrated in their last home game when a Wigan side who showed little attacking ambition squeezed out a goalless draw.

And while Barnsley, having started the season like a house on fire, have now gone six games without a win, Bees boss Smith is still expecting a testing time for his back four – not least from one of his former players.

He said: “Barnsley started the season really brightly but have hit a poor run of results. We know they will come and give a good account of themselves, and they will come for us.

“We've got to be at our best, and I think Barnsley will come to win the game. It's not in their nature to sit back, and having played two forwards for most of the season, I would be surprised if they change that.

Familiar face: Tom Bradshaw

“One of them may well be Tom Bradshaw, who I had at Walsall. So, that, coupled with the fact that I saw them a of last season, means I know a lot about their team.

“I took a Walsall team there last season and beat them 2-0 when they were on a bad run, but they've been on an upward trend since then, and they will be ready and organised.”

If Barnsley come out to attack, Brentford's defence will be well prepared having responded to the coating they took at Newcastle last weekend with an impressive clean sheet at Derby midweek.

Smith added: “We gave Newcastle a helping hand, and didn't want to to do that against Derby. We didn't, and it was a very good solid peformance. We created the better chances and were unfortunate not to come away with the three points.

Double delight: Barnsley won the JPT and promotion last season

“We should have had a penalty and a red card for them. You can't change it, you move on, but I did go and speak to the officials after, and got the impression the assessors agreed with me.

“It will even it out over the season, I'm sure, but it was important we put in a good defensive performance after the Newcastle game. We slipped up at Newcastle but showed what we're about at Derby, and we need to do that again on Saturday.

“After two very tough away games, it's nice to come back home. It feels like it's a while since we've been there, and we've got a really good record at home.”
