Barnet will again be rueing their missed opportunities after losing 2-0 at home to Wycombe.

After John Akinde skewed wide an early opportunity when through on goal, Bees fans would have shared a feeling of deja vu, after last week’s 2-0 defeat at the hands of Leyton Orient.

And it appeared that that was exactly how the match would pan out. Missed opportunities for Luke Gambin, Andy Yiadom, and Tom Champion all preceded the break, while Wycombe went close through Garry Thompson and Paul Hayes.

Sam Togwell then blasted an effort off the top of the crossbar, in the final opportunity before the break - and both managers would have been content at half time.

Wycombe came flying out of the tunnel for the second half, and Hayes was denied by a last ditch block, before Thompson was kept out by a Bira Dembele tackle.

But the latter did eventually break the deadlock, slamming home an effort from the edge of the box with seemingly nothing on. A drop of the shoulder lost the defender in front of him, and he crashed an effort off his left foot into the top corner to stun the Hive.

And it served to provide an enthralling finale, as three penalty appeals by the Bees fell on deaf ears, before a sensational overhead kick from Michael Gash was denied in equally fantastic fashion by Matt Ingram in goal.

But with just moments remaining, Wycombe stole the points with a penalty - Sam Wood played in Thompson who was brought down by Dembele - the big forward rolling the ball down the middle of the goal to seal the game.
