Middlesex Tamils were crowned champions of the Mayor of Harrow's Twenty20 Knockout Competition after defeating Harrow Town by five wickets on Monday (04).
It was the club's third appearance in the final and first triumph since beating Stanmore in 2002. For Harrow Town, however, it could have been so different but for some slack fielding and poor shot selection.
Put into bat at Stanmore CC, the Tamils posted 187 for five with openers Sumudu Jayatillake (54) and Elanko Thavalinkam (32) laying down the platform, built upon by a stylish 44 for middle order batter Kumar Sadagopan.
Rashid Shafi was Harrow's best bowler with figures of three for 30 off five overs.
In reply, Harrow appeared on course at 92 for two after 10 overs before a spectacular collapse saw them teetering at 134 for four and then 156 for eight as Thushendra Demuni (three for 52) and Vasanth Somasundram (three for 16) found their range.
Their confidence shattered, Harrow were knocked off for 169 in the final over despite some fine individual efforts by Navin Samarakoon (29) and man-of-the-match Tyron Theophile (64).
