THAMES VALLEY CRICKET LEAGUE DIVISION 3B
Chenies and Latimer 215-4
Old Merchant Taylors’ 207-3
IT WAS a frustrating first day back on the cricket field for Old Merchant Taylors’ as their match was abandoned with just nine runs needed to beat Chenies and Latimer.
OMT, under new skipper Sohan Modi, will take 14 points from this season opener but it would have been more had heavy rain not set in.
Chenies and Latimer amassed a score of 215-4 off 44 overs.
In reply the OMT top order scored fluently – Ash Mehta 61, Ludi Hall-Drinkwater 39, Paul Marshall 46 not out and Sohan Modi 40 not out – only to watch agonisingly as the weather worsened.
The decision to leave the pitch was taken with OMT still having nine overs and seven wickets in hand.
The second XI, under stand-in captain Dhiraj Shah, demolished visitors Wycombe Dragons. Bowling them out for 53 in 16 overs, David McCabe took a career-best 7-22 and Paul Katz 3-28. OMT chased down the total for the loss of just two wickets.
The thirds were visitors to Boyne Hill fourths, with the home side scoring an imposing 274-6 off 42.5 overs.
In reply, a fluent 103 from Raj Vellingiri, ably assisted by debutant Chris Plume (56 not out), gained OMT a comfortable draw, the visitors finishing on 213-3 off 47 overs.
Hayes played out a draw with Slough seconds in the first match of their Division 3A campaign.
