SARACENS HERTFORDSHIRE CRICKET LEAGUE DIVISION FOUR

Northwood Town 238 all out

Ampthill Town seconds 224 all out

Northwood Town won by 14 runs

NAILS were bitten as Northwood Town recorded a narrow victory at Ampthill Town seconds.

The Northwood Town players held their nerves late on to secure a 14-run triumph in Division Four.

Batting first, Northwood Town took to the crease with purpose, however they lost the early wicket of Akshay Loomba (5).

That could easily have thrown things into disarray but the visitors regained their composure and some decent runs followed.

Jamie Cotton (33), Michael Lister (45), Sangeet Patel (66) and Mikil Patel (36) all showed their skills with the bat to help fire Northwood Town to 238.

It was a decent score and one Ampthill would need to be on their game to surpass.

The first couple of batsmen looked nervous and they only notched seven runs between them before making early exits.

Much like the away side, Ampthill’s middle order proved stubborn to remove from the crease, taking the game right to the wire.

But the final two did not register a score and a relieved Northwood Town snuck home by 14 runs.

Raj Kotecha (3-53) and Viraj Manek (3-58) did the most damage with the ball.

Meanwhile, in Division Two, Northwood played out a draw with Hemel Hempstead seconds to earn 16 points.

Cameron Unicombe hit a half-century and Stuart Reeve took three wickets to help Northwood claim a share of the spoils.
