Middlesex were frustrated in their bid for victory at Bristol as the County Championship match with Gloucestershire finished in a draw.

Gloucestershire's last wicket pair of Anthony Ireland and Ian Saxelby held out for 22 overs as the home side finished on 174-9 after Middlesex had set the pace on the final day of the match.

Middlesex declared their second innings on 212-4 with Ed Joyce making 86 not out and Owais Shah 65 - a lead of 323.

Victory then looked a certainty as Gloucestershire slumped to 147-9 with Tim Murtagh (3-33), Alan Richardson (3-34) and Steve Finn (2-27) in the wickets.

However, Ireland and Saxelby then held out for the final 22 overs to take the score to 174-9 at the close of play. Gloucestershire took six points and Middlesex 10, which moved them second in the table.
