DIVISION TWO

Harrow St Mary’s 189 all out

Harrow 162-8

Winning draw for Harrow

IT WAS a family affair at Payne’s Folly as Harrow clinched a winning draw against Harrow St Mary’s.

Almost a quarter of the players on show at the weekend came from just two families.

Father and son pairings Gary and Tom Pettet and Alok and Ajay Soni turned out for HSM, with Aamon Soni facing his relations for Harrow.

Following a slow start, Tom Pettet took control of the innings on his way to knocking up a very respectable 76.

But with six down, the remaining St Mary’s batsmen could only add seven more runs and the away side were dismissed for 189.

It was an unspectacular total but Harmeet Singh claimed an early wicket with a stumping thanks to keeper Nisanth Selvakumar in the first over.

Tom Pettet then took an early catch and spinner Bhavik Patel, having replaced Aalok Soni, got an lbw with his second ball.

Hard-hitting Aamon Soni got his 50 with six overs to go before being stumped after putting nine more on the board.

As the game entered the final over, Harrow needed two runs and Bhavik Patel’s delivery was swept for four.

A losing draw was on the cards for HSM but they could still claim the win if they could get the final two wickets.

With only two balls left an appeal for a close catch was turned down and Harrow took the four points.

Meanwhile, Tinashe Chimbambo inspired Saints’ seconds to a convincing win over Crouch End and Jawaad Mahmuud’s unbeaten 82 fired the thirds to a winning draw against Ickenham.

The weekend’s fixtures came on the back of another successful Saints summer tour as the team travelled to South Yorkshire, including matches at Wath, Castleford and Sheffield Collegiate.
