Lee 'Five Bellies' Doherty hit the winning runs with his first shots at the crease in two years on his return for Bedfont 62 on Sunday.

With his side chasing Southall Combined's 156-9, Doherty dispatched his two balls to the boundaries with cultured but aggressive swipes which certainly weren't from the David Gower batting manual.

His contribution - plus 46 from Steve Gould, 29 from Mitchell Osbon and 24 from Harjit Notay - saw Bedfont reach 157-5 in good time and win by five wickets.

Earlier, Colin Whatling, Cory Pascoe and James Sutton had taken three wickets each.

However, the best bowling and batting performances of the weekend came the previous day against Fulmer, which also ended in a five-wicket win for Bedfont.

Osbon bagged 85 runs, which added to Jamie Read's unbeaten 41, saw Bedfont successfully chase down Fulmer's 156 with 13 overs left, reaching 160-5. Paul Edwards earlier took 2-4, and Wayne Heighes 5-40, on a hard, flat track.
