Harrow born spin king Ravi Patel has been rewarded for his fine form for Middlesex with his first England call up.

The 22-year-old left-armer, who has taken 29 wickets in all formats this season, has been called into the England Lions squad for next month's limited overs triangular series against New Zealand A and Sri Lanka A.

Patel was his side's leading wicket-taker in the T20 Blast this season, taking 18 wickets at an average of 18.66 and enjoying an economy rate of 6.33 runs per over.

The former Harrow St Mary's CC colt came through Middlesex's academy and made his first-class debut in 2010, penning a three-year deal at Lord's last year.

He has also taken nine wickets at an average of 56.88 in his five County Championship appearances this year, and recorded figures of 2-43 in Middlesex's opening match in the One-Day Cup on Saturday.

Middlesex lost that game to Glamorgan by seven wickets, despite great efforts from Neil Dexter and number 11 Steven Finn, who were unbeaten on 43 and 42 respectively.

This was followed by a narrow four-run defeat to Warwickshire on Sunday, meaning Middlesex's One-Day Cup campaign is in danger of going the same way as their doomed Twenty20 efforts.

Alistair Cook, who made 95 for England against India, was not the only skipper to fall agonisingly short of a century on the day, with Chris Rogers going for 96 against Warwickshire.

Middlesex will be looking to get their One-Day Cup campaign back in track when they host Surrey at Lord's on Thursday (10.30am).
