Middlesex all-rounder Dawid Malan has been called up to the England T20 squad for the first time in his career.

The county's T20 captain had an excellent England Lions tour earlier this year against Pakistan A in the United Arab Emirates.

And the 28-year-old, who was born in Roehampton, could make his debut for the senior side against Sri Lanka at Hampshire's Ageas Bowl on July 5.

National selector James Whitaker said: “Dawid Malan has made great strides as an attacking batsman, both with Middlesex and the England Lions.

“We were particularly impressed with his three fifties during the winter tour of the UAE against Pakistan A.”

Malan has been in excellent form this season and scored 93 against Hampshire at Uxbridge in Middlesex's first T20 blast.

He wrote on Twitter: "Absolutely delighted to have been named in the England 20/20 squad to play Sri Lanka. Dream come true. Thanks for the messages and support."

Malan's Middlesex team-mate Eoin Morgan will captain the T20 side and is also leading the 50-over side.

He is joined in the 50 over squad by Middlesex bowler Steven Finn, who started to regain form in the final Test against Sri Lanka.
