British cuisine may not be world renowned - especially when compared with Chinese, French or Italian cuisine - but there are some dishes that only us Brits do best. Our traditional roast beef and Yorkshire pudding recipe for instance, really does us proud.

No roast would be complete without it. Made with pancake batter using milk, eggs and flour, the humble Yorkshire pudding is usually baked as individual mixtures using muffin trays in an exceptionally hot oven.
If you want your Yorkies to rise successfully, be sure to keep the oven door shut for the entire duration of the cooking time, just as you would when baking a cake. Otherwise, you could end up with puddings that resemble deflated balloons rather than the light, puffed up puddings they are meant to be.

As an alternative to individual Yorkies, some recipes suggest baking the mixture in one huge chunk and dividing it into square sections afterwards, like this delicious Yorkshire pudding recipe created by celebrity cook Delia Smith.

Rather amusingly, a highly enthusiastic group of fans of the traditional Yorkshire pudding recipe have decided to dedicate a day in honour of it. British Yorkshire Pudding Day falls on the first Sunday in February, so be sure to celebrate the next one by baking your own.
