A woman who spat at and punched a member of station staff before claiming "you're lucky it wasn't an uppercut, I'm from the Ends" has been sent to prison.

Toni Pottle, 29, of no fixed address, was seen to be harassing a passenger before the assault at Euston in the early hours of April 15.

A female member of staff had asked her to leave the station, resulting in what police described as "nonsensical" racial abuse.

She then punched the woman and spat in her face.

Pottle was convicted of one count of assault by beating and one count of racially aggravated assault and was sentenced on June 14 by Westminster magistrates to 26 weeks in prison and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £115.

The arresting officer, Sergeant Neil McGrath from British Transport Police, said: “Pottle’s behaviour was quite frankly disgusting, her nonsensical racial abuse has no place in our society and I welcome this sentence.

"Thankfully, the victim did not sustain any serious injuries, nevertheless this would have been an extremely frightening experience.

"This call came direct from staff to officers at Euston and the female was detained in the course of spitting at the victim.

“No one should ever be subject so such nasty and unprovoked violence, least of all for simply doing your job. We will never stand for this type of behaviour and will actively seek the toughest of sentences.

"Pottle will now spend the next 26 weeks behind bars, plenty of time to reflect upon her actions.”
