It appears many of our getwestlondon readers are very proud of their Middlesex roots.

We compiled an article explaining how the government "administratively abolished" Middlesex as a county in the Local Government Act 1972 and detailing how the area now comes under the Greater London umbrella.

After posing the question, "do you still say Middlesex?", an overwhelming number of readers exclaimed they are Middlesex born and bred and had no intention of associating with a Greater London postal address.

An overwhelming majority came to the defence of Middlesex, considering it as very much a part of their address.

Karen Harfield was quick to come to the defence of the historic county, commenting: "Yes, I still use it, don't care if it doesn't officially exist, it's the county I live in, I don't put Greater London on my address!!"

Facebook user Tom Murphy agreed, saying: "If you were born, brought up or ever lived in Middlesex, it will always exist within you. Long may it continue. BRING BACK MIDDLESEX."

June Taylor points out a sign on the road in Uxbridge still reads Middlesex.

"London starts at Chiswick Acton Ealing etc." said Elizabeth Beckensale, adding: "Brentford Hounslow Isleworth is Middlesex that's what I have grown up knowing."

Cindy Collens was very passionate, she said: "I'm sorry says who??? I live in Middlesex always have done...you can't just magic away a whole community because someone decides we don't exist!"

Hillingdon born astrologer and media personality Russell Grant also had something to say about it:

In a Facebook comment, he argued: "For the record the Middlesex County Council was abolished but under the Greater London Act 1963 the County of Middlesex wasn't".

Linda Warwick said Greater London means nothing to her, commenting: "It will always be Middlesex to me.

"It is where I spent my childhood. I am afraid "Greater London" means nothing to me!"

Siouxie Clack says they sometimes have issues when entering their address: "I never knew this I wondered why sometimes I struggle to find Middlesex when entering my address."

Sarah Pegram Bedford explains she uses Middlesex, commenting: "Yeah of course! Middlesex hasn't existed for years n years they should reinstate it."

Despite the majority being outraged at the thought of Middlesex not existing, some readers were happy to adopt Surrey and Greater London into their addresses.

West Middlesex University Hospital, Isleworth

Karen Hargreaves admitted she no longer uses Middlesex, instead opting to use Greater London.

For Janice Keene, rather than use Middlesex for an address, she uses Surrey.

Karen Hargreaves commented: "I work in Wembley and hate it when people say Middlesex it's just a part of London"

Whilst Elizabeth Beckensale perhaps had the best suggestion: "They could make Prince Harry Earl of Middlesex lol".

Yes we agree, this could put a lot of people's worries to rest!
