A 90-year-old woman attacked at her home is now in a critical but stable condition in hospital, police have confirmed.

The woman suffered a stab wound to the neck and head injuries consistent with blunt force trauma, at around 8pm on Thursday April 27.

Police had initially reported the incident involved a hammer, however officers have since confirmed that no such weapon has been found.

Officers were called to Lilac Place, Yiewsley at around 8.20pm by London Ambulance Service , and are now appealing for information in relation to the attack.

Alleyways around the circular residential road have been cordoned off

There have been no arrests made and Hillingdon CID are keeping an open mind with regards to any possible motives.

It is not known whether any items were stolen from the home.

Detective Inspector Claire Hine said: "This was a horrific attack on an elderly, defenceless woman in her own home, which has left the victim fighting for her life.

"We are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time and may have seen anything that could assist our investigation to come forward."

Neighbours are having trouble getting into their homes due to a strict police cordon

Neighbours of the victim have spoken out in shock at the brutality of the attack on the grandmother.

One neighbour, who wished to remain anonymous, told getwestlondon that the victim had lost her husband six or seven months earlier and had just been released from Hospital

"It's heartbreaking" they said.

"You can imagine she was probably just pottering about at home and putting away her shopping.

"It's just heartbreaking to think that someone could do that to anyone let alone an elderly person.

"There's of people saying they're thinking of moving from this area."

Some neighbours describe seeing a woman in a black hoody at the time.
