A 12-year-old boy was hit by a van outside his school in Hayes on Wednesday afternoon (February 23), the headteacher of Barnhill Community High School has confirmed.

The Metropolitan Police were called to the scene outside Barnhill Community High School in Yeading Lane at around 3.45pm after reports of a collision.

He was taken to hospital and a police presence remained in the area into Wednesday evening.

Police said on Thursday morning that the boy's injuries are not life-threatening or life-changing, after previously stating it was a man who was injured.

Headteacher at Barnhill Community High School, Mark Mayne, confirmed the boy was a student and praised his staff and pupils for their response to the incident.

He said: "All staff and students would like to send our best wishes for a speedy recovery.

"I would like to commend those members of staff and students who assisted yesterday afternoon."

A statement from the Met said: “ Police were called at around 3.45pm Wednesday, February 22 by London Ambulance Service to a collision between a van and a pedestrian in Yeading Lane, Hayes.”

The driver stopped at the scene and no one has been arrested in connection with the collision.

Police said enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing.
