Sticky fingered staff in west London are almost twice as likely to steal from their employers as workers elsewhere in the country, new figures suggest.

There were 663 thefts by employees across west London in the 12 months to June 2015, at a rate of 32.6 for every 100,000 people, exclusive research for getwestlondon shows.

That is nearly double the national rate of 18.8 such offences per 100,000, according to an analysis of government crime data.

Workplace thefts in west London increased by 12.6% over the year to June, from 589 during the previous 12 months.

That is more than twice the average increase across England and Wales, of 6.1%.

Westminster has the country's least trustworthy employees, according to the figures, with 212 crimes in the year to June, at a rate of 90.9 per 100,000 people, followed by North Norfolk (73.9).

North Kesteven in the East Midlands has the most honest workers, with a rate of just 3.6 such offences per 100,000 people.

In west London, Harrow has the lowest proportion of office pilferers, with 17 offences there in the year to June, at a rate of 6.9 per 100,000 people.
