A woman has been airlifted to hospital in a critical condition after a crash in Hayes.

Emergency services were called to Avondale Drive, shortly before 3pm on Wednesday afternoon (June 17), after a collision involving the woman and a car.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: "The woman has gone by London Air Ambulance (LAA) to an east London hospital and her condition is initially described as critical."

The air ambulance, which was spotted landing in Hitherbroom Park, was dispatched at 3.05pm.

An LAA spokesman said: "I can confirm that LAA dispatched its advanced trauma team by helicopter to a road traffic collision in the UB3 area."

An eyewitness, who was passing by after the incident happened, said: "A lady was laying near zebra crossing with an air ambulance, lots of police and a normal ambulance on scene.

"It looked quite serious - I saw her lying on the floor, with people who put her into the recovery position."

Road closures were in place in Coldharbour Lane, off Uxbridge Road, while the helicopter emergency medical services landed.

Transport for London tweeted to say bus routes had been affected in the area.
