A murder investigation has been launched after a woman was found with stab wounds in Chelsea.

Police were called at 1.20am on Sunday (August 2) to reports of a woman suffering stab wounds at an address in Stadium Street, SW10.

London Ambulance Service also attended and the 35-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene at 1.45am.

Although officers believe they know the identity of the deceased, we await formal identification to take place and enquiries are under way to trace next of kin.

A post mortem examination will be scheduled in due course.

'Very sad'

One neighbour, who asked not to be named, told getwestlondon: "I got home at around 2.30am and saw eight police cars and an ambulance.

"I didn't know what had happened but assumed it was a fatality.

"It's very sad, a young life lost."

A 48-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody at a central London police station.

Enquiries continue.
