Police have launched an appeal for witnesses after a 12-year-old boy was struck by a lorry near Holborn station.

Emergency services were called to the scene of the accident at Southampton Place following the collision between a lorry and a child on Saturday (December 3) afternoon.

The boy, a pedestrian, was rushed to a central London hospital to be treated for multiple injuries.

The Metropolitan Police have described his injuries as not life threatening.

A Met Police spokesperson said: "On Saturday, December 3, police were called by London Ambulance Service (LAS) just before 3pm to a collision between a lorry and a child on Southampton Place, WC1 - near the junction with High Holborn.

"Officers attended and LAS took the pedestrian - a 12-year-old boy - to a central London hospital.

"His injuries are described as not life-threatening. His next of kin are aware."

The driver of the lorry stopped at the scene. He has been assisting police with their enquiries.

Officers from the Roads and Transport Policing Command are urging anyone who may have witnessed the crash to get in touch.

Detectives from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit are carrying out enquiries into the circumstances of the collision.

No arrests have been made.
