A 90-year-old widower has spoken of his heartbreak after his late wife's jewellery which was stolen in Norholt .

Thieves broke into Walter Brown's home through the rear kitchen door by smashing it on February 17, in the late afternoon or evening, police said.

They went through Mr Brown's personal belongings before stealing 51 sovereign coins, which he had been collecting for 25 years.

Items of jewellery which belonged to his late wife, who died of cancer after the pair were together for 50 years, were also stolen.

One item was a gold necklace with a gold Concorde on the end, a rare item Mr Brown gave to his wife from his time working at British Airways.

Mr Brown said: "She was the best thing I ever had.

"We were together for 50 years and I lost her pretty quick.

"She never complained about being ill or anything else.

"Losing, what is your wife, bits and pieces and things like that. That's all I can say."

Gold bracelets, silver rings, a watch and other jewellery were taken in the robbery.

Officers said the robbery has left Mr Brown devastated, and added he wanted to leave the items to his grandchildren before they were taken.

PC Luke Case from the Metropolitan Police said: "The public can really help us try and restore Walter's life collection and locate the offenders.

"The items stolen are very recognisable and someone must be trying to sell them."
