Young brain boxes are preparing to sit their Arabic GCSE FIVE years early.

A quartet of 10 and 11-year-olds - some of whom are still in primary school - are among pupils from Al-Tawheed Arabic School, in Feltham Community College, sitting the exam this summer. Students are usually 15 or 16 when they take their GCSEs.

The youngsters, who live across the borough of Hounslow and are all in year six or seven, are: Alae Chemmach, 10; Mahdi Bouroudj, 10; Anass El-Alawani, 11; and Zakaria Boungab, 11.

They are among a total of 11 students from the evening school put forward for the exam, all of whom teacher Yasmine Rostom says are predicted to get A*s.

Their feat is all the more impressive given none of them speak Arabic as their first language. While some of the children's parents come from Arabic-speaking countries like Algeria and Morocco, others have no connection with the language.

The school, where lessons take place every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, opened four years ago but this is the first time pupils have been put forward for GCSEs in the subject.
