With results coming in from the London Elections throughout the day, Londoners are in for a wait when it comes to finding out who their next Mayor is.

A City Hall spokesperson has confirmed that Mayoral results can be expected anytime between 6.30pm-1am.

The 12 candidates and assembled media are waiting for the hotly anticipated news following a day of voting on Thursday (May 5).

Previous years have seen the announcement being made early to late evening, with votes being counted electronically.

According to head of communications for London Elects Alison Bell, "around six million people are registered to vote and, if the count was done by hand, it would take three days to obtain results."

Voters took to the polling booths yesterday to pick their next Mayor, London Assembly candidate and London Wide candidate - with some even taking their dogs .
