Police in west London have used firearms to shoot out tyres on 15 occasions in the past seven years.

The earliest incident during the period of a vehicle immobilisation recorded in the Metropolitan Police shots fired database was in Westminster in April 2010, according to the information released following a Freedom of Information request, with one other incident in Westminster in September 2015.

Over the period, there were also three incidents in Brent, three in Ealing, one in Hammersmith and Fulham, three in Hillingdon, one in Hounslow, two in Kensington and Chelsea.

Overall Metropolitan Police used firearms to immobilise vehicles on 70 occasions between February 2010 and January 2017.

Of the 33 forces across the UK that supplied information, 22 said they had no incidents of tyres being deflated using firearms over the past seven years.

Metropolitan Police has been approached for comment.
