Libraries in west London are on the move with new permanent homes found or suggested.

Plans have been announced for a new Marylebone Library being given an permanent home in the Grade II listed Seymour Leisure Centre.

And Hounslow Library is moving from its current home in the Treaty Centre, and to a temporary location before it will eventually be housed at the new council HQ in Bath Road , which is due to open in Spring 2019.

Marylebone Library is subject to consultation and planning and will replace the temporary library, currently located on Beaumont Street following the closure of original facility, at the Old Marylebone Town Hall.

Part of the plans will include a £2.5 million refurbishment of the leisure centre, in Seymour Place, which will benefit from improved multi-use studios, gym, fitness suite, spinning studio, spa and changing facilities by the summer.

A new hot yoga facility will also be built, as well as a new reception for the fitness facilities.

The new Marylebone Library will also include a children’s library offering regular family activities, space for studying, and computers.

Initial proposals focus on locating the library in areas of the leisure centre that are currently under-utilised or are not used for sport and leisure activities, including the courtyard and back of house areas.

Feasibility studies followed by a full consultation with leisure centre and library users, local residents, businesses, schools and other interested parties will take place ahead of any future development.

Westminster Council says any work that takes place will be sympathetic to preserving the listed building, with minimal external changes expected, and internal alterations unlikely to affect any features of special interest.

In Hounslow , plans to move the library into the new civic centre direct from its current home have been shelved.

Instead it will move in May to the council’s current HQ in Lampton Road and stay there until both are ready to move into the new building.

The improvement at Seymour Leisure Centre forms part of a £9m investment in leisure centres across Westminster through the council’s contract with Everyone Active.

Marylebone Library moved out of Old Marylebone Town Hall after the London Business School announced that they would take over the iconic building on a 35-year lease, following a £20m refurbishment to the Grade II listed building.

The building has been closed for works since 2013 and is expected to reopen by September this year.
