A 32-year-old man from West Drayton has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after three people were hit by a car following a fight in Essex.

One man was left in a critical condition and two other people have since been discharged from hospital.

The incident happened at around 3.10am in Brentwood High Street on Sunday (April 2) after a disturbance involving more than 20 people.

The man was arrested on Wednesday (April 5) alongside a 26-year-old woman from Hornchurch, east London, who was detained on suspicion of assisting an offender.

A statement from Essex Police said: “Two people have been arrested in connection with a disturbance outside the Sugar Hut nightclub in High Street, Brentwood.

“The arrests are in relation to an incident in which three people were struck by a blue Audi following a fight involving more than 20 people.

“A man is described as being in a critical condition in hospital. The other victims – a man and woman – have since been discharged from hospital.”

The injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

Police are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information is asked to call the Brentwood Major Investigations Team on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
