“I’m not saying it’s got any worse, I’ve lived here many years and there’s always been problems.

“Just bad that another life has been lost.”

Brent council kicked off 2017 with an event about youth crime this week

While we try and find out how far the police investigation has got to, it’s important to note that it was only this Tuesday that the The Roundwood Centre in Harlesden was packed on Tuesday for a community event which focused on gangs in Brent.

Although police have no information yet as to why or how exactly the teenager died, the council started 2017 by trying to tackle some of the wider issues which affect young people in the borough.

At the time, Cllr Tom Miller, Cabinet Member for Stronger Communities, said: “There was so much passion in the room from a community who really want to solve the issue of gangs in Brent.

“We know how vital it is for the Council to listen because we are very aware that we cannot do this alone. A strategy based on the discussions last night is being drafted and we will share this with those who came to the event as well as the wider community, for them to feedback on.”
