1. Officer hurt after shooting himself in the foot

A police officer who shot himself in the foot in west London on Thursday (September 21) morning was in a stable condition in hospital, Scotland Yard said.

The firearms officer was hurt after his weapon went off in Old Oak Common Lane, on the border of East Acton and Shepherd’s Bush, resulting in roads in the surrounding area being closed off .

A sniffer dog was later at the scene , but police say Old Oak Common Lane and Du Cane Road reopened that afternoon.

The Directorate of Professional Standards has been informed, but the Met say it is unlikely to report the incident to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).

Police are continuing to look into the full circumstances of the incident to try and establish what happened.

2. Eastcote collision: Woman dies following fatal crash

The Metropolitan Police confirmed a woman died following a crash in Eastcote .

Emergency services were called to the scene in Catlins Lane at 2.38pm on Monday September 18 to reports of a collision between a car and a hedge.

London Air Ambulance attended, but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

3. Does Middlesex still exist?

Many believe that Middlesex no longer exists as it was abolished in 1965.

Greater London was formed and, with that, Middlesex County Council was dissolved.

But Middlesex is still used as a reference to where people live all the time.

4. Predator sexually abused schoolgirl

A "predatory" man who groomed a 14-year-old schoolgirl so he could sexually abuse her has been jailed.

Richard Slater, 46, of Unwin Road, Isleworth , targeted his victim and bought the underage girl gifts and drugs.

Slater was aware of the girl's age and convinced the "impressionable" girl he was in love with her.

5. Raid on home finds 35 men crammed into property

A dawn raid on a three-bedroom property in Brent found 35 men living inside.

Enforcement officers and Brent police entered the semi-detached house in Winchester Avenue, Queensbury at around 6am on Tuesday (September 19) following complaints from neighbours.

The house was packed wall-to-wall with mattresses, which the men living there, all of eastern European origin, had piled into every room except the bathrooms.
