Former England left-back Stuart Pearce has landed himself the role of 'Director of Footfall' at Brent Cross shopping centre ahead of Euro 2016 .

A video on the mock role has been released by the centre showing the former international helping male shoppers get their shopping done in record time so that it can't be used as an excuse for missing important matches.

Pearce who started his career at Wealdstone and is otherwise known as Psycho, set out to remove bad habits such as having to return an item, which creates a second visit, having not tried an item on or being distracted by gizmos and food options.

During his time at Brent Cross, the legendary left-back, who scored a penalty in the semi final shootout against the Germans at Euro 96, dished out a rollocking to a shopper who stopped for some lunch before shopping was complete.

He also provided a rousing team talk explaining the essentials of good preparation and encouraged attacking formations and coached movement for 'beating a man' at the tills.

Pearce said: "It was an unusual offer to receive, but Premier League footballers and male shoppers are very similar in many ways.

"They are both capable of great things, but poor decision-making, distractions and chasing that luxury lifestyle can occasionally distract from the job in hand.

"I tried to apply the same techniques from football management to retail management and felt that we saw a good response.

"It's a huge summer of sport this year, so to miss any of it because you have to return a T-shirt you didn’t try on is a travesty."

Tom Nathan, general manager at Brent Cross, added: "We were delighted to have Stuart on board to accept this role and believe he's done a sterling job already.

"You could see from our shoppers' faces that the training has already helped and we hope more can learn from the principles Stuart demonstrated.

"At Brent Cross we're always looking for new ways to improve our customer's experience, from offering over 120 shopping outlets to various food and drink options.

"We're all excited about the upcoming summer of sport so we're keen to do everything we can to optimise shoppers' time in the centre."
